13.1. Primary Measures for Environmental Protection in 2010.

The following environmental measures were taken in the structural divisions of JSC TGC-1:
two new hydraulic units of 60MW total capacity were put into operation at Vuoksinskiye HPPs Cascade; that allowed reducing the oil consumption by 2 times owing to the decrease in normative leaks through the blades and reducing the intake of water resources for industrial needs by 30%;
the construction of cooling tower No. 2 at Pravoberezhnaya CHPP is in progress. The disposal of non-treated water into open water bodies is fully stopped;
at Avtovskaya CHPP, the design-and-exploration works and installation of fish protection structures at the water intake from the Bolshoy Turukhtansky boot basin of the Finnish Bay;
the sites for temporary storage of wastes are equipped at Pravoberezhnaya, Vyborgskaya and Severnaya CHPPs.

Containers for temporary storage of wastes are purchased for the structural divisions of the Nevsky Branch.




13.2. Ecological Management System Implementation

The internal audit of the ecological management system (hereinafter referred to as the “EMS”) of the pilot facilities, the structural divisions (Administration of JSC TGC-1, Yuzhnaya CHPP, and Vuoksinskiye HPPs Cascade of the Nevsky Branch) was conducted in March and April of 2010.

The JSC TGC-1 EMS certification for compliance with the requirements of the international standard ISO 14000:2004 was carried out in November and December of 2010, and on 27 December 2010 the subdivisions of the Nevsky Branch, namely: Yuzhnaya CHPP, Vuoksinskiye HPPs Cascade, and Administration of JSC TGC-1 obtained the certificates of compliance of the ecological management system with the requirements of the international standard ISO 14000:2004. The extension of the EMS certification for all structural divisions of the Nevsky Branch is planned for 2011.

13.3. Sponsorship and Charitable Assistance

In 2010, the sponsorship and charitable assistance was rendered for a number of organizations situated on the territory of the Company’s presence. Monetary assets were allocated for supporting organizations by the following activities:


 

JSC TGC-1 takes an active part in the public life of the North-West region, supporting the most cultural events.

In 2010, JSC TGC-1 traditionally took part in the financing of the Christmas Fair in Saint Petersburg, which was held from 14 December through 7 January under the patronage of the Government of Saint Petersburg and was organized by the Economic Development, Industrial Policy and Trade Committee of the Government of Saint Petersburg. The funds allocated by the Company were committed for the establishment of an open skating rink installed near the walls of the Alexandrinsky theatre.

A new project for TGC-1 was an address assistance to children in the Republic of Karelia. In 2010, JSC TGC-1 performed the action for electrical illumination of child day-care centres with daisy chains and purchased presents for children from 20 child day-care centres.

The 16th Ski-Track of Friendship conducted in settlement Rayakoski of the Murmansk Oblast became another significant event of the international level for TGC-1. For the seventh time already TGC-1 acts in the capacity of co-organizer of the mass ski race jointly with the Government of the Murmansk Oblast. JSC TGC-1 commemorates the Great Patriotic War of the period from 1941 to 1945. The Company supports the conduct of festive actions for the Victory veterans.

Along with large city holidays, JSC TGC-1 takes an active part in the development of the modern culture. In 2010, the Company supported the Festival of Modern Art and Theatre; the funds were committed for acquisition of costumes and theatrical equipment for the Raykin Variety Theatre.

TGC-1 takes an active part in the support of socially unprotected layers of society. The Company works with the Children Protection Foundation on a regular basis. A trip to France was organized for 30 children of the Foundation at the expense of the Company’s funds in 2010. These children received the New Year’s presents from the Company as well. The Diagnostics and Consulting Centre in the city of Podporozhye, Leningrad Oblast was equipped at the expense of the TGC-1 funds.

The Company helps to veterans of the Chernobyl catastrophe annually. Over 100 persons received the aid from TGC-1 in 2010.

The support of sport and the promotion of the idea of healthy life-style is a singular social activity of TGC-1.

TGC-1 allocates finances for supporting of medical establishments. In 2010, 3 hospitals were equipped with medical equipment and repaired.

Along with the medical infrastructure development, TGC-1 started cooperation with the Chulpan Khamatova’s Charitable Foundation in 2010. The monetary funds were channeled for acquisition of medicines for children.

The Company also implements joint projects with higher educational institutions of Saint Petersburg.
